Every store exit in South Africa has the same unsolved problem

Transport is a major part of South Africa's economy and labour market, with about 1.12 million people employed in the transport sector in Q2 2025. Carry It asks a narrower question: can existing bakkies, vans and trucks be matched more easily to bulky-item jobs?

The problem

Small businesses and households often need to move goods over short distances, but the available transport is fragmented. A vehicle may have capacity while a nearby customer is still searching for a suitable bakkie or van.

What we observed

The gap is not only about having vehicles. It is about discovery, matching, timing, trust and the practical details of moving a bulky item from one place to another.

The question we asked

Could a simple digital marketplace make existing transport capacity easier to discover and coordinate without requiring a new transport fleet?

Why we built Carry It

Carry It explores an on-demand model connecting customers with suitable bakkies, vans and trucks for bulky-item delivery and moving.

What we are testing

The prototype is testing the basic customer-to-vehicle workflow, service information and the practical requirements for arranging a move. It is a prototype, not a claim of measured logistics impact.
